This is a good piece. My comment; Biden and his team, as well as Dems in general are not good at messaging. That being said, the deal is okay; he didn’t give up much compared to the disaster of a default; Biden is the grown up here. He had to negotiate with the GOP, many of whom would gladly burn it all down.
Rama, thank you so much for giving my piece your time and consideration. I really appreciate it.
I am still reserving judgment on how successful this hostage negotiation has been. The details are still trickling out and it isn't clear to me yet what the scope of the additional limitations on receiving social programs is and what the dollar amount of the agreed caps are on the social program spending from what I have seen so far. That could have changed over the last few hours since I last checked too. Most importantly, the jury is still out on if McCarthy can get the wild wing of his caucus, screeching and racing around like a pack of angered cats on a buttered floor, corralled and on the same page he is on to get this deal passed.
We are totally agreed on Democrats poor messaging and framing skills and this is a point I have belabored in many of these comment sections, ad nauseum. There may be a day I commit one of my rants to that, possibly soon. If you liked "Enough!", please consider giving my other work a look and maybe consider a subscription. Thanks again.
